The Sapling Learning CMS is based on the popular Moodle, an open-source collaboration between programmers and educators, and designed to specifically address the needs of instructors worldwide. Since 1999 this CMS platform has undergone active development and proven itself to be extremely stable. Over 50,000 sites use the Moodle CMS, with 25 million users worldwide.

Sapling Learning has made dramatic enhancements to create SaplingLearning.com, including integrating its powerful learning environment, authoring capabilities, and activity creation capabilities.

Activity Creation

Easy Activity Creation – The Sapling Activity Editor enables instructors to quickly put together an assignment for their students by browsing the content bank and choosing questions to add to their assignment. Each content item can be previewed and even edited by the instructor. Finally, set the due date, the point value, and relax as the scores roll into the grade book.

Flexible Activity Policies – It is easy to choose from either homework mode or test mode for most activities to behave as instructors expect for those types of assigments. However, for those who desire more control, the Sapling Activity Editor is powerfully flexible, and enables instructors to configure individual activity policies and save them as a new custom activity type. Instructors can choose how much feedback students receive, limit the number of attempts, change penalty settings for attempts, and much more.

Grade Book

Easy to Use – The grade book was developed with years of input from hundreds of instructors. Instructors view student scores on each assignment, review class averages for each assignment, and set grade parameters.

Automatic Score Reporting – After each student has submitted their assignment, SaplingLearning.com will grade their work and immediately post the scores to the grade book. No more grading, no more hand-entry of scores.

Complete Transparency – Reviewing student performance is an important part of teaching, and all an instructor has to do is click on a student score to launch the Sapling Learning Environment, which presents a complete history of the work done by the student: every attempt made, all the instruction that was given to them, each of the solutions they viewed.
